Newt can take a hint. He's not good at taking hints, but he's definitely capable of it. Texas Ranger doesn't want to talk about his island and that's fine, Newt is patient when he wants to be, when he's not a step away from becoming a full on rock star. So he lets go of his curiosity, for now, in favor of giving TR what he seems to really need-- a distraction.
He smiles into his drink when TR starts to more closely examine his arm. He wonders if he'll ever get tired of explaining what the kaiju are, how awesome they are, what it had meant for the world to drift with them. Doubtful, he decides. Most people had tended to just give him dirty looks when they saw his tattoos, not even bothering to ask him about them. At least here, he's getting a chance to explain. Not that he's ever felt the actual need to, it's just a vibe that he's realizing he appreciates.
"Definitely not from around here, unfortunately. Well, I mean, I guess it's not unfortunate, kaiju aren't exactly man's best friend. But uh, I studied them. Extensively. They've basically been my life for the past ten years."
