Newt frowns at the term. Hipster. He vaguely remembers that being a thing that was in vogue--at least with a lot of the college crowd--just before he got recruited to the PPDC. He'd been teaching at MIT then, and yeah, okay, he recalls the thick frame glasses with the fake lenses, the skinny jeans, the tattoos of infinity signs, anchors, skulls, stars, lyrics that probably wouldn't seem so meaningful a decade later. And sure, he can see why Texas Ranger makes the comparison.
"My glasses actually are what allow me to see, if that makes a difference. The tattoos, well, they don't exactly make me a valued guest at parties. People are sensitive about seeing art featuring monsters that destroyed their lives, isn't that funny?" He smiles but it doesn't quite reach his eyes because he's never, not once, been bashful about his tattoos, he's never regretted getting any of them. Each one represents something very specific, a reminder of moments that changed his life and ruined others'. He doesn't want to think about it right now. "So you're diving headfirst into the booze because of crazy little island of yours?"
