His situation is different, Sawyer immediately realizes as Kara starts to talk about some type of purpose, some type of destiny. He doesn't have any similar sense of having fulfilled some type of fate, or having been instrumental in something happening. Maybe he should — he certainly feels that Hurley and Jack played their roles on that island, and he believes that it's being protected as they talk. And who Jack and Hurley were at that time was undoubtedly influenced by every single person who was with them, including himself.

But it just doesn't feel... like he was necessary.

"You don't think the purpose you've got here is enough?" he asks, not unkindly. "What happens if you figure out that your purpose back home isn't done. Think you'll want to leave here?"
