"Oh Jesus, don't start callin' me daddy," Sawyer says with a wrinkle of his nose and a cough of a laugh. It feels too warm for the kind of parenting he's provided Clementine with so far. Too much of an endearment for the difficulty he's had in providing for his daughter. Day by day, he feels like he's more able to stand on his own two legs with her, but he doesn't want to relax. Doesn't want to declare himself capable.

There's a long way he has to go.

"Cleo's real easy to buy for, you're right. Applesauce, rice krispies. I've been eatin' alright. Lots of sandwiches and fruit," Sawyer adds, shaking his head. "Doesn't look right on a guy like me, does it? I'm practically sensible now."
